Game 1
This
was NBC's first
homestand of the 2008 season, yet again against Leicester Bluesox. The day
was hot and sunny, making playing hard work in the heat. NBC started Eduard
Fabregat in his last game for the club before he returns to Catalunya. The game
progressed steadily, Northampton going out in front and maintaining a lead
with some solid hitting. Final score - 16 - 11, a good ending for Eduard,
who leaves us as a winning pitcher on the day!
Game 2
NBC stepped their game up a
notch, and at the same time fielded some new blood to give them a little
experience in the outfield, Ollie Calcutt going out to left, and EJ Ayala
taking right field.
The early innings
progressed well, Northampton quickly stepping on the gas to go out in front
by a good margin. Pitcher Marius Urbanivicius was on the money, making it
difficult for the Leicester batters to get his number.
EJ Ayala was welcomed to
the adult team, getting hit by a pitch in his first at bat!! He toughed it
out, and took first base! Way to go EJ - take it for the team!
Northampton held a 10 run
lead after 5, so the game was won on the Mercy rule.
A good day for NBC, taking
their record to 7 - 5, a pretty level playing field with league leading
Mapleleafs, who have played 2 games less than NBC so far this season, having
the early bye days.
Next Sunday, 15th June is a
bye week for NBC, and a deserved rest! The 22nd June sees Herts Hawks bring
it to MK in the second meeting of the two clubs. First pitch - 2.00 p.m.
