This week saw NBC with
considerably fewer players, and they struggled to field a side, having to
play the injured Bryan Clarke as a last resort. Bryan turned in a brave
performance before incapacity forced him to the bench. EJ Ayala turned in
his rookie performance, and gained some valuable game time experience that
will stand him in good stead for the future.
The Leafs were good enough
to provide umpires for both games, as this was technically an NBC home
fixture, played at Birmingham because of difficulties with the NBC diamond
in MK. For these two factors NBC would like to extend a vote of thanks to
the Leafs for being good sports.
It was a blazing hot late
spring day, and NBC were but nine for two games of tough baseball. They
fought bravely and hung tough, but the task was just overwhelming, and the
Leafs took two on this day, though neither game was a route, being decided
by one run only on both occassions. Credit to NBC where it's due, given
their limitations on the day, they did themselves proud.
Next week sees the club's
first visit to Leicester Blue Sox new diamond.
First pitch - 12.00.
